Jabalpur Police Arrest Two Involved in Illegal Liquor Business in "Operation Shikanja"

Jabalpur: In a successful operation under "Operation Shikanja," the police in Jabalpur arrested two individuals involved in the illegal liquor business. The police team, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Rural Mr. Shivesh Singh Baghel and SDOP Sihora Ms. Parul Sharma, seized 605 pav country liquor worth around 50 thousand rupees and two two-wheelers.
According to the police, the arrests were made after receiving a tip-off about two youths carrying a large quantity of liquor from Sihora to Jabalpur. The police laid a blockade on NH 30 near Sonam Dhaba in Gosalpur, where they spotted the suspects in a gray-colored Activa and a black-colored Axis. The suspects attempted to flee, but the police caught them under siege.
The two accused were identified as Durgesh Soni, 21, and Abhishek Swami, 19, both residents of Jhanda Chowk, Premsagar Hanumanatal. The police found 297 pav of country liquor in two bags near the footboard of Soni's Activa, and a total of 308 pav of country liquor in a sack kept in the footboard of Swami's Axis and a bag hanging on the handle. The police seized the 605 pav of country liquor, along with the two vehicles.
Assistant sub-inspector Pradeep Tiwari, head constable Vijay Agnihotri, constable Pushpendra, Swadash, and constable Shivkumar Narayan played a commendable role in apprehending the accused. The police have initiated an inquiry under Section 34(2) of the Excise Act against both the accused separately.
Senior Superintendent of Police Jabalpur Mr. Tusharkant Vidyarti (I.P.S.) has directed all gazetted officers and station in-charges to take effective action against those involved in drug/liquor smuggling, and this successful operation is a step in that direction.
