Agar Malwa: Cases of love jihad are increasing in Madhya Pradesh too. This case is of Agar Malwa district. A case has been registered against the accused under the MP Religious Freedom Act, 2021. A case of 'love jihad' has come to light in Susner of Agar Malwa district of Madhya Pradesh. A young man named Irfan changed his name and trapped a Hindu girl in his clutches and then married her. After marriage, the accused and his family started pressurizing the girl to change her religion. According to the police, the accused Irfan had told 24-year-old girl that his name is Rohan. The girl is a resident of Shujalpur district. In February this year, he got her married forcibly and after that named her Alia. In the FIR, the girl has alleged assault by Irfan and his family members for pressurizing her to convert to Muslim religion.

According to the girl, while studying in college, Irfan  came in close contact with the girl and told his name to be Rohan and then both of them ran away from home and got married three years ago. At that time the girl also had two lakh rupees. This money was also kept by the accused Irfan. After marriage, they also have a two-year-old daughter and an 11-month-old son.

From March this year, both of them started coming to Susner and living with Irfan's family. Irfan's family forced her to change his religion here. Because of this, she started being assaulted. After this Irfan was not allowing her to meet anyone. On August 19, after getting a chance, the girl reached her parents and narrated her ordeal. After this, the girl's maternal uncle reached the Susner police station and lodged a case against the accused.

According to Susner police station in-charge Rajeev Uike, a case has been registered under section five of MP Religious Freedom Act, 2021 and under sections of assault. Madhya Pradesh Religious Freedom Act is effective from 27 March 2021 in Madhya Pradesh. Violation of Religious Freedom Act by hiding one's religion (love jihad) shall be punishable with imprisonment from three years to 10 years and fine of Rs 50,000 and five to 10 years for attempted mass conversion (of two or more persons). There is a provision of jail and a fine.
