New liquor policy in Madhya Pradesh to be implemented from 1st April, posters encouraging people to drink to be removed

Madhya Pradesh: Posters encouraging people to drink alcohol will be removed from liquor shops in Madhya Pradesh. It has started from Bhopal. Excise Commissioner OP Srivastava has given instructions in this regard. Action is being taken to remove such posters by directing the excise staff by the collector. Instructions have been given for such action in other districts of the state as well.
An information board written in Hindi shall be displayed in front of every liquor shop displaying the nature of the license under which the sale is conducted, the name of the licensee and the current prevailing rates or sale rates except foreign liquor. Advertisements motivating to drink liquor will not be placed in the liquor shop.
The new excise policy will come into effect from April 1, 2023, but the state government is churning on the advantages and disadvantages before implementing it. The Chief Minister has instructed the officials of the Excise Department to closely examine such points in the new excise policy, which neither affect the revenue nor harm the image of the government. The new excise policy is to be presented in the next cabinet meeting.
In such a situation, the condition of liquor shops across the state, the distance of liquor shops from schools, colleges, temples etc. is being seen and it will be decided that how much distance of liquor shops should be determined from these places. At present, 50 meters distance of liquor shop from such places is fixed. It is also being considered to increase the license fee by 10 to 15 percent.
