Madhya Pradesh: On Monday, Director General of Police Sudhir Kumar Saxena held a meeting through video conferencing with top officers of the police department to ensure that the festivals of Holi, Rangpanchami and Shab-e-Barat, which are being celebrated across the state on March 6, 7 and 8, are observed with peace and harmony.
Mr. Saxena emphasized that all festivals should be celebrated with harmony, and citizens' enthusiastic participation in the festivities requires police arrangements to be in place. This year, Shab-e-Barat is being organized during Holi and Rangpanchami, which requires special care to be taken to maintain communal harmony.
During the meeting, ADG (Intelligence) Mr. Adarsh Katiyar and IG Law and Order Mr. Sanjay Tiwari were present. Mr. Saxena directed the officers to ensure women's safety during the festivals, with strict legal action taken against those who molest women. He also emphasized the need to keep a special eye on illegal liquor traders and anti-social elements.
The DGP stressed that special arrangements should be made to prevent incidents of arson on Holik Dahan and advised citizens not to do Holika Dahan around electric poles, wires, or any other inflammable material. He also directed the officers to coordinate with other departments to ensure essential health services and fire brigade arrangements.
Mr. Saxena instructed the officers to keep a special watch on sensitive areas where communal incidents and disputes have taken place in the past years. He also emphasized the need to take complaints on social media seriously and to try to resolve disputes that happen during Holi at the police station level. Adequate security arrangements should be made by marking the routes of Holi procession and Shab-e-Barat, with the use of drones for monitoring the police
