Bhopal: In the capital, 23rd District and Additional Sessions Judge Atul Saxena on Saturday sentenced a Ugandan cyber thug to five years in prison. The thug had made duplicate ATM cards by copying the ATM card data of 12 people by installing a skimmer in the ATM of State Bank of India (SBI) in Amaltas Colony, Katara Hills. The thugs went to Bangalore and took away Rs 2 lakh from the duplicate ATM cards of all 12 people at different times. The Bhopal Police arrested Andrew Mukasa, an accused in this case, on 14 January 2020. Additional Public Prosecutor Officer Rajiv Jain presented the side of the state government in the court. Additional Public Prosecutor Rajiv Jain told that in January 2020, the police had withdrawn money from the bank accounts of more than 10 people without using ATM cards. All these transactions took place at the ATM located in Bangalore. Twelve people had complained about withdrawal of money from the bank account without using the card to the cyber police and crime branch through different means. In its investigation, it came to light that people from whose accounts money has been withdrawn from the ATM of Bangalore. All of them had withdrawn money from SBI ATM located in Katara Hills within a given time period. ATM skimming is the theft of your debit card information. A small device is used in this. This is called a skimmer. Mukasa Andrew, along with one of his associates, William, installed the skimmer at an SBI ATM located in Katara Hills. With the help of this ATM card data of more than 10 customers who withdraw money from this ATM machine was stolen. Also, new duplicate ATM cards were made from the copied data with the help of laptops and computers. With this card, the accused had gone to Bangalore and withdrawn more than Rs 2 lakh from the accounts of 12 consumers at different times from ATMs. It is used to steal card information during ATM transactions. As the card is swiped into the machine, the skimmer device captures the information stored on the card's magnetic stripe.
