Bhopal: A shocking case of ragging has come to light in the National Law Institute University (NLIU) located in the capital. After a delay of 20 days, the institute management has taken action and expelled three senior students from the hostel for two years.
The incident occurred on the night of February 19 when three senior students allegedly ragged a first-year student, asking him to drink and feed them. When the junior student refused, he was reportedly assaulted. The aggrieved student then complained to the anti-ragging helpline of the UGC, which prompted the Proctorial Board to investigate the matter within three days.
However, despite the UGC guideline that mandates action within 24 hours of a ragging complaint, the inquiry committee formed by the institute had not submitted its report until now.
The inquiry committee has reported that both parties were questioned in the case, and based on CCTV footage, three students have been found guilty. The expelled students will not be able to participate in any university activities.
The report has also been sent to the Anti Ragging Helpline of UGC, raising concerns about the institute's delay in taking action. Students and faculty members are calling for stricter measures to be implemented to prevent such incidents in the future
