Bhopal - Mayor Malti Rai gets notice in corruption case. The matter is said to be 15 years old. Now the Divisional Commissioner has issued notice for hearing.
Bhopal Mayor Malti Rai, in her first speech, had asked the Municipal Corporation to end corruption. Now on 7th August, the very next day of his taking oath, she got a notice in the 15-year-old case. This case is related to the construction of cement-concrete roads in MP Nagar. In which 39 councillors of the then BJP party were found guilty of overpayment of Rs 85 lakh to the contractor. At that time Malti Rai was a councillor. Congress MLA Arif Aqueel had complained to the Lokayukta regarding this matter. After which the Lokayukta sent its inquiry report to the divisional commissioner in 2007. The report recommended disqualification of the guilty councilors and recovery of Rs 85 lakh. Since then the matter was pending. Now the Divisional Commissioner has issued notices for hearing.
In fact, in 2005, development works including CC road, pipeline, sewage line were to be done in MP Nagar Zone-2 from 5.45 crores. In this, a firm offered at 7.2 percent less than the SOR. This was opposed by the BJP councilors and the tender was canceled on the basis of the majority of the BJP councillors. Subsequently, the same company was offered 8.38 percent more than the SOR. Due to this the corporation suffered financial loss of Rs 85 lakh. The Lokayukta has recommended to recover the same from the councilors.
