Death toll reaches 20 people who died during Ganpato Visarjan in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Maharashtra: Ganpati visarjan festivities on Friday were marred by 14 drowning deaths and six other related fatalities across Maharashtra. One of the victims was a 55-year-old woman who died after a tree fell on a pandal in Thane’s Kolbad area. The deceased has been identified as Rajashree Walavalkar. The four injured persons include her son Pratik, 30, who is battling for life at a private hospital.
In Panvel, 11 persons, including a nine-month-old, sustained injuries from an electric shock during immersion at Vadghar Koliwada in Panvel. Most of the injured were trying to rescue a 17- year-old boy whenanelectric wire connected to a halogen light snapped and fell on him.
Panvel civic chief Ganesh Deshmukh was present atthe immersionsite and transported the injured to Lifeline Hospital in Panvel. While the teenager is on a ventilator, others are said to be stable. In Wardha district, three persons drowned inSawangi, while another drowned at Devli.
Two drowning incidents in a pond were reported from Yavatmal, while two others drowned in Supa and Belvandi in Ahmednagar district. In Jalgaon, two deaths due to drowning were reported from Chalisgaon and Jamner. One incident of drowning was reported each from Dhule, Lonikand in Satara, Vijapur Naka in Solapur and Ghodegaon in Pune rural, the police said.
In other separate instances related to visarjan, four persons died in a road accident in the Sakkardara area of Nagpur, and one person died in Yavat in Pune after falling from a wall. Some other law and order situations were reported from parts of the state on Friday.
A scuffle broke out between the supporters of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray at Tophkhana in Ahmednagar district, an official said. In Jalgaon, a group of people hurled stones at the mayor’s bungalow during a visarjan procession, while a clashbroke out betweentwo groups atMundhwa in Pune city.
A brawl took place at Shikrapur in Pune district over bursting firecrackers, while in Chandrapur, a fracas was reported between Ganesh mandal volunteers and police personnel
