In a bid to curb the sale of spurious milk-mawa and products made from them in the capital, the Food Security Administration has developed an informer system comprising about 50 people. These informers will provide information about adulterants to the Food Inspector, who will then take raid action against the culprits. According to officials, the informer system will enable them to reach those adulterators who could not be identified earlier due to delays in getting information.

The informers have been selected from various places in the city and are expected to increase the number of actions taken against the sale of adulterated milk and milk products. In addition to this, the Food Security Administration will also conduct special monitoring of milk-mawa coming from outside the city.

The consumption of milk in the capital is about 10 lakh liters daily, which increases to 11 lakh liters during the festive season. To ensure the safety of milk and milk products during this time, samples of 62 food items have been collected in the last 10 days, with 10 from milk and 14 from milk products. The Food Safety Officer is currently taking action to collect samples of sweets and milk specifically during the festive season.

"During the festival season, the consumption of milk suddenly increases, and the possibility of adulterated milk being sold in the market increases as well. In such a situation, investigation is necessary," said Devendra Dubey, District Food Inspector, Bhopal. The informer system is expected to play a crucial role in identifying and curbing the sale of adulterated milk and milk products in the capital.
