Police Investigation Uncovers Bunty-Babli Style Crime Spree; Accused Duo Apprehended and Stolen Goods Seized

Kolar, Bhopal - In a significant breakthrough, the Kolar Police Station has apprehended a notorious high-profile thief couple who operated in a manner reminiscent of the infamous Bunty-Babli duo. The police successfully recovered stolen cash, jewelry, and a valuable mashruka worth approximately Rs 50 lakh during the operation.

The meticulous investigation conducted by the police team involved an exhaustive review of over 50 CCTV camera footages, spanning from the crime scene to the suspects' residence. Additionally, the team interrogated numerous individuals, including the maid, electrician, and approximately 20 other people associated with the case. In a bid to uncover leads, the team even subjected the family friends of the complainant, a couple, to extensive psychological questioning that lasted for around eight hours.

Through a combination of intensive interrogation and careful analysis of the CCTV footage, the police were able to piece together the sequence of events leading to the arrest of the accused couple. As a result of their efforts, stolen goods amounting to Rs 50 lakh were successfully recovered.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Harinarayanachari Mishra, announced a city reward of Rs 30,000 for the team responsible for unraveling the details of the incident. The police team's commendable work was also acknowledged and respected by the victim couple.

Providing details of the incident, Mr. Jitendra Singh, the complainant, reported that he had recently returned home after a trip to Delhi. Upon inspection, he discovered that a safe containing cash and gold jewelry, valued at approximately Rs 50 lakh, was missing from his cupboard. The investigation revealed that the theft was orchestrated by Rupesh Rai, a family friend, who befriended the complainant and gained his trust through his wife, Jayalakshmi Rai, also known as Rekha. Exploiting Jitendra Singh's absence, the accused couple invited his wife, Ragini Singh, to their house for lunch, keeping her occupied while they executed their plan. They obtained the key to Ragini's house from her purse, rode to her residence on a maroon-colored Activa scooter, and stole the safe from the cupboard. The stolen items were later recovered near Amarnath Road.

The seized mashruka included valuable items such as a 20-tola queen necklace, a 3-tola mangalsutra, a 2-tola gold chain, a 1-tola flower ring, four 8-tola gold bracelets, and two 2-tola earrings, collectively worth approximately Rs 33,00,000. In addition, Rs 17,18,000 in cash was also confiscated. The maroon-colored Activa scooter used in the commission of the crime was seized as well.

It has come to light that the accused couple specifically targeted families where the husband frequently stayed away from home due to work commitments, leaving a substantial amount of cash and valuable jewelry unattended. By cultivating close relationships with such couples, they gained their confidence before executing the thefts. Following the arrest of the accused couple, other residents in the colony have expressed concerns that similar thefts may have occurred in their homes, although these incidents were not reported due to strained relationships or the small value of the stolen items. They have been advised to submit separate applications to the police regarding their suspicions.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Rupesh Rai, aged 47, and his wife Jayalakshmi.
