It was a day in Bhopal when public transport drivers held not just their steering wheels but also steered their mindset towards traffic safety. Under the banner of the Road Safety Month, a workshop organized by the Police Transport Research Institute taught drivers of buses, e-rickshaws, and autos the essence of responsibility on the road through ‘Parwah’-filled lessons.

On January 28, the Madhya Pradesh Science and Technology Institute in Bhopal presented a rare sight—no blaring horns, no traffic chaos. Instead, it was a discussion on road safety, attended by those who form the backbone of the city’s daily life: public transport drivers.
The event commenced with a ceremonial lamp lighting by Sanjeev Shami, Additional Director General of Police, along with other dignitaries. However, the real light spread when over 700 drivers gained valuable insights into traffic rules. From e-rickshaws to school buses, drivers learned that following traffic regulations is not just a legal obligation but also a profound social responsibility.
*The Wheel of Responsibility:*
Drivers were encouraged to transform themselves into role models for reshaping public transport in Bhopal. Tushar Kant Vidhyarthi emphasized that with nearly 15,000 public transport vehicles operating daily in the city, drivers hold the key to reducing accidents.
*An Eye-Opening Experience:*
The workshop also featured free eye and health check-ups for the drivers, conducted by teams from Seva Sadan Bairagarh and ABM Hospital. Harinarayanchari Mishra remarked that road accidents are not just incidents—they are tragedies that can change entire families’ lives.
*‘Parwah’ Lessons:*
The workshop highlighted how speeding, negligence, and ignoring traffic rules lead to major accidents. Pankaj Srivastava stated that the identity of a capital city lies in its efficient traffic system, and this depends on drivers adhering to traffic regulations.
*A Lesson for Life:*
Bhopal’s drivers walked away with more than just workshop participation—they gained a renewed sense of responsibility and awareness about road safety. With these efforts under ‘Parwah,’ Bhopal aspires not only to become the capital of safer roads but also a model city for the nation.
