Sasikala- key ally of the late Jayalalithaa announces her retirement from political life

Chennai: Sasikala, a key ally of the late Jayalalithaa, the supremo of the AIADMK, has announced her retirement from political life. She has also appealed to AIADMK leaders to unite to defeat the DMK. Sasikala issued the letter saying, "Party workers should stay together and decide a big victory by defeating DMK in the coming assembly elections." Earlier, speculations were being made that Sasikala, along with her nephew Dinakaran, could create problems for the party. At the same time, sources are describing this entire episode as part of the script written by the BJP.
Amma is the former actress known as Sasikala Chinnamma, who was very powerful in the era of Jayalalithaa. She was sent to jail 4 years ago in a corruption case of 68 crores. Subsequently, she was removed from the post of party general secretary by the AIADMK led by Chief Minister E Palani Swamy (EPS). Sasikala also took refuge in the court against this, claiming herself to be the real claimant of Jayalalithaa's legacy. Her tremendous road show from Bengaluru to Chennai was also seen as a show of strength after she was released from prison in February.
